Tanzania Plantation and Agricultural Workers Union
TPAWU were registered as a union in 2000 and have a membership of 33,450 of which 27% are women. It is affiliated to the Trade Union Congress of Tanzania (TUCTA).
TPAWU has been active in support of women workers and for the past twelve years has been coordinating a project for women workers in sugar, tea, coffee and sisal plantations aimed at improving the living and working conditions.
Ugandan Workers' Education Association
UWEA was registered in Oct 2001 with a national executive in Kampala and three district branches. There are two full time staff in the office in Kampala, a General Secretary and Programme Officer.
Current work includes providing education for those who have lost employment and for vulnerable workers such as women and young people. There is also an awareness building programme around HIV and AIDS. UWEA works closely with trade unions and with NGOs such as the Platform for Labour Action and Human Rights Concern.
Forum for Environment
Officially registered in 2003, they are governed by a Board of Management and, as a membership organisation, have an annual meeting of their General Assembly. Major achievements of FfE include spearheading the national flower campaign, stimulating and commenting the development of a national code of practice for the flower industry and launching the Green Award Program in Ethiopia. FfE works closely with the union NFFPFATU whose staff will be closely involved in all project activities and will carry out much of the field work.
