Our demands
We are asking supermarkets to do the following in their supply chains:
- Reduce casualisation on farms and ensure all workers have written contracts available to them
- Ensure freedom of association is truly implemented and that mechanisms for collective bargaining are in place
- Address the issue of forced overtime and ensure overtime rates are paid
- Ensure that workers are receiving a living wage
- Ensure sexual harassment policies are put in place and supervisors are trained on how to deal with these issues
- Ensure all workers, non-permanent and permanent, are given full training on the safe use of pesticide and are provided with protective clothing
- Ensure that all social codes applied on the farms are audited with the supervision of an independent Trade Union or NGO and that auditors have been properly trained.
- Auditors have been properly trained especially in regards to women workers as they make up the majority of the supply chain.
