Continuing and Higher Education Certificates - (LACW - Learning and Acting in a Changing World Programme)

All modules can 'stand alone', which means that you can choose to study just one module if you wish. However, most students decide to work towards a Certificate - either one that contains compulsory modules that must be studied in order to achieve a named Certificate (such as the Certificate in Global Labour Studies or the Certificate in Work and Learning), or others, whereby students have greater flexibility and choice about which modules to study.

The Learning and Acting in a Changing World Programme offers two Certificates which give students a greater choice in what they study - the Continuing and Higher Education Certificates. The sixty credit Continuing Education Certificate is the equivalent of half a first years study at undergraduate level and the 120 credit Higher Education Certificate equates to a full first years study at undergraduate level. The LACW programme does not work beyond Higher Education Level 1. Modules can be gathered together in a variety of combinations to make up one of the Certificates as follows:

1) Certificate in Continuing Education in Community and Industrial Studies (60 credits)
You choose any modules from the programme to the value of 60 credits

2) Certificate in Higher Education in Community and Industrial Studies (120 credits)
You will have already acquired 60 credits* so you can now choose a further 20 credits from the programme but must take two compulsory modules. These are:

  • Understanding Research (20 credits)
  • Introduction to the Social Theory (20 credits)

* In order to successfully complete the 120 credit Certificate, students must have completed a 60 credit Continuing Education Certificate.
