New Course for Representatives: Commitment - Redundancy Toolkit Training

About the `Commitment` Course

This is a 4-day Open College Network (OCN) training course, of particular benefit to those whose role is to negotiate issues around the redundancy process. The course prepares participants to support members` immediate and on-going needs when facing redundancy

Amicus does not accept redundancies, however, when they do occur they affect members and their families. Members look to their Union for guidance and the course will help you:

• Identify the needs of members facing redundancy
• Understanding the role of Shop Stewards in negotiating a redundancy support programme, and the part Union Learning Representatives play
• Identify `best practice` in redundancy support
• Demonstrate a basic understanding of the welfare benefit system
• Understand and evaluate the following:
  • Labour market trends
  • Employment, training and education opportunities
  • Organisations who can support members
  • Employability skills
  • Sources of information and guidance
  • Basic benefit needs of individuals facing redundancy

All assessment can be taken during the course and tutors are on-hand to support participants with these. `Commitment` is delivered by tutors, who are qualified and experienced guidance and benefits workers, or by the Amicus Education Department.
