Yorkshire Playwrights is a group of professional and aspiring professional dramatists, active in all the dramatic mediums, stage, television, radio. The group works to encourage the writing and the performing of new plays in Yorkshire and to develop understanding of the dramatist's craft.

David Nobbs has a new novel out. Sex and Other Changes is an everyday story of a married couple who both change sex...Ray Brown's Living Pretty is on an Arts Council - backed tour, watch out for it near you....Micheal Stewart (now writer-in-residence at Theatre-in-the-Mill in Bradford) has a short story in an anthology of new writing called Naked City...Listen out for Ian McMillan still going strong on Radio 3 with The Verb every Saturday night, before midnight...and was that his voice we just heard on a new TV ad for Oatso Simple?

What else have we been up to lately? Have a read of the Chair's report from the agm in May 2004 here. One definite: we've received a grant from Arts Council Yorkshire for marketing and re--branding ourselves. Take a look at the bid and associated budget (both rtf or rich text format documents, readable in most word processors) here. Marketing consultant Lisa Baxter is now working on our 'marketing and re-branding' project. She's be reporting back this month.


A company of local Equity members launched a cooperative venture with Yorkshire Playwrights at West Yorkshire Playhouse on Saturday 9th October. A reading of The Wicca Mam by Anthony Gaughan was followed by a lively, positive discussion. Our November meeting was also a Company event.
