Todmorden University of the Third Age (U3A)

Monthly speaker-led meetings, and a host of groups meeting around Todmorden tackling a range of different topics, from family history and creative writing to French and Scrabble. We have several group convenors and are looking for more. We now have over 100 members from Todmorden and the surrounding areas in a dozen-plus groups. Do come and join us!

Age Concern Todmorden

Community Car Service 

A Community Transport Calderdale project.  We run a volunteer car service to transport individuals who cannot access other forms of transport for reasons of disability, old age, mobility problems, rural isolation and poverty.  Volunteers use their own cars to transport people to health appointments, day trips, shopping trips, social activities etc.  Transport is door to door and escorted.  Cost - 40p per mile, £2 minimum charge, £1 annual membership.

Todmorden Walkabout Free led walks - explore Todmorden, meet new people, and get fitter! Walks are fortnightly on Mondays (short, easy walk on the flat) and Sundays (more challenging walk exploring hills and towpaths).

Incredible Edible Todmorden

A new partnership dedicated to promoting a 'grow your own' approach to food, and aiming to make Todmorden a pioneering town of self-sufficiecy, with the help of the whole community and lots of local groups. Meetings every third Sunday in the month, 2-4pm for gardening advice and plant swaps.

Falls Prevention - one-to-one or group support for people who have fallen or are at risk of falling. There are teams for the Upper Valley, Halifax area and Lower Valley. Run by NHS Calderdale. Contact the team on on 01422 317975.


Supporting carers - many older people are carers, and this can have a big impact on their lives. This project offers helpful support to carers. Run by Calderdale Carers Project. Contact Maureen or Lesley on 01422 369101.


Handyperson Service - a trustworthy and reliable handyperson who can carry out small jobs such as fitting a grab rail, putting up shelves, unblocking the sink, draft-proofing doors, changing plugs and so on, for £10-15. Run by Calderdale Council. Contact 0845 245 6000.
