BORGIA, lately corrupted into Bourgeois. In mortal life she was both Lucrezia - the illegitimate daughter of Vanozza and Pope Alexander VI - and Lucrezia's brother Cesare. Beyond mortality, though, the two have become one, a creature of the Renaissance, goddess of the middle-classes. Borgia likes to think of herself as a matron of the arts and architect of the least imperfect forms of government. There are some, however, who regard her as a monster, presiding over depravity, yet with a fierce desire for respectability because of her illegitimate origins.

(You can also read Alexander Dumas' description of how Caesar (Cesare) Borgia had himself treated after he had been inadvertently poisoned by wine he had intended to use to poison another...or you can even leave the project and go check out the anachrofuturist band Borgia Popes...hey, but if you go, come back soon...)
