2000 Feb 07 Calling all IPC Freelances...THE NUJ and GPMU chapels at IPC magazines have combined to organise an joint meeting to push for rerecognition in the run-up to the Fairness at Work legislation coming into force later this year. The meeting is on Wednesday February 23 at the Dogget's Coat and Badge pub on Blackfriar's Road, opposite the Express, from 1.10pm to 1.40pm. The usual surgery offering advice to IPC workers will be open from 12pm until 4pm. General Secretary John Foster will present the Union's case for recognition. There will be a free lunch buffet for everyone who attends, sponsored by the NUJ's London Freelance Branch. IPC derecognised the NUJ and the GPMU nearly ten years ago, but a recent management buy-out that led to reorganisation and staff cuts at the group's Blackfriars HQ has produced a groundswell of opinion among the staff that it is time for a change. As IPC relies heavily on freelance journalists and casuals to get its magazines out, the meeting is open to everyone who freelances there, whether they are members of the union or not. Please do all you can to spread the word about this important initiative. For more information call IPC FoC Ian Bottle on 020 7261 7874 (w) or Steve Wilkinson on 020 8287 1981.
