 Play and Childcare Initiative Project

The Play and Childcare Initiative Project is based at The Family Service Unit and is funded by Eastside Regeneration. The Project covers Miles Platting, Ancoats and the Northern Quarter.

The Project Aims to:

  • Support existing play provision in the area
  • Support local people to develop new play provision in the area
  • Develop new play initiatives in the area
  • Research the childcare needs of the area
  • Develop more childcare in the area
The Project needs to know the views of those living and working in the Northern Quarter.
It is looking at how the childcare needs of the area can be researched and is trying to assess the childcare needs of people living and working in the Northern Quarter.
Since November a number of individuals from different groups in the Northern Quarter have met to share information around their childcare needs and  related issues.

City Lights
Anne McNamara at The Big Issue in the North is working on developing a childcare facility based in or around the Northern Quarter.
It will aim:

  • To provide the best childcare facilities in the country
  • To provide an exciting and educational environment
  • To be socially responsible
She is presently looking for a site ideally for a new build near the City Centre. If anyone knows of a suitable site please let her know - 0161 834 6300
