Supporter promise

Our Promise to You

Our Fundraising team are dedicated to providing the highest standard of care to our supporters, without whom MSF's work would simply not be possible.

“Today we struggle as an imperfect movement, but strong in our volunteers and national staff, and with millions of donors who support both financially and morally, the project that is MSF.”
- Dr James Orbinski, former President of the MSF International Council accepting the Nobel Peace Prize on behalf of MSF in 1999.

In recent years, your support has enabled MSF to significantly expand our programmes in the field, reaching more people in need, responding faster to emergencies, broadening the range of medical services we provide, and improving the quality of our medical care. MSF is committed to expanding the reach of its programmes in the years to come, and your support is the foundation of this.

The financial independence provided by your donations allows MSF to:

  • Choose freely where to intervene based on medical needs alone.
  • Intervene quickly, particularly in emergency situations, regardless of political concerns or media coverage.
  • Decline government funding that would compromise the ability to run effective programmes or funds from parties involved in the crisis.
  • Commit resources and teams to innovative new projects to improve the situation of individuals we aid and demonstrate their appropriateness in specific interventions. For example, MSF was able to treat patients living with HIV/AIDS with antiretroviral medicines long before governments started allocating funding for this.

As part of our promise to you we:

  • Will not send you constant appeals or share your personal data with other organisations. We are also careful about using other forms of communications such as the telephone, and are currently looking at ways we can adapt our mailings to suit your needs.
  • Bring our supporters closer to the reality and challenges of our work, through our mailings and publications. Our information and first-hand accounts come directly from our field staff.
  • Make every effort to respond swiftly to questions about MSF's work and your support. We welcome your interest and will always strive to answer your query, however complex.
  • Respect your wishes if you decide to designate your donation to a particular area of our work; and we would be delighted to discuss this with you.
  • Run an efficient and effective organisation. We inevitably incur administration costs. However, we strive to keep these to a minimum. Currently we send 82% of donations to our work in the field. Click here to see how we spend your donations.
  • Safeguard the security of your personal data and ensure that your transactions are secure.
  • Constantly evaluate our work and welcome feedback, ideas and suggestions on  how we can improve our service to supporters. If you have any thoughts on how we can improve, or would like to share your experience of supporting MSF, please contact  Louise Greysmith
