Manchester Asian Trading
Information Network

An Overview

Manchester Asian Trading Information Network (MATIN) is an economic development initiative facilitated by Greater Manchester Bangladesh Association (GMBA) with financial assistance from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). It works in close co-operation with Manchester City Council's Economic Initiatives Group, Manchester Metropolitan University's Centre for Employment Research (CER) and other telematics initiatives in North West England. Its aim is to enhance and stimulate international trade links, primarily between Manchester and South Asia through the effective and appropriate application of datacommunications technologies.

The MATIN organisation, comprising of leading figures from Manchester's Asian business community, has commissioned GMBA to facilitate a transnational mercantile communications & information system. This service will provide cost-effective access to quality commercial data, information and contacts relevant to concerns operating from Bangladesh, India and Pakistan, who wish to improve their East-West trade potential. This will include sales leads, invitations to tender, market information including demand, prices and trends, and joint project proposals. Additionally, these businesses will also be able to place product and company information onto the system, ensuring overseas partners have access to up-to-date information on their services and wares.

Similarly, the network system will also provide information to partners in Manchester, the rest of the UK, Europe, and the United States of America. By increasing the volume, quality and profile of data on trade with South Asia, it is envisaged that existing links can be improved and new opportunities developed.
