Theatre Credits

I'm currently working with the Giffnock Theatre Players on their production of Sunset Song, playing from October 25th to October 28th 2006 in the Village Theatre, East Kilbride (tel. 0141-637 2477 and 01355-248669). Based on Lewis Grassic Gibbon's A Scots Quair, this is a gritty and uncompromising story of rural life in Kincardineshire at the time of the First World War, requiring North-East Scottish accents.

I coached Pain and Panic's production of Rodgers & Hammerstein's The King & I. This attractive story of an English governess and the King of Siam requires Thai accents, not often heard in the theatre.
I coached the Glasgow Orpheus Club's production of Carousel, which ran for seven performances in the Theatre Royal, Glasgow. This powerful Rodgers & Hammerstein musical drama required a well-defined Maine (New England) accent. My other work for Orpheus Club includes Show Boat and Guys & Dolls, both running the the Theatre Royal, Glasgow. These productions used Southern United States, General American and downtown New York accents.

For Glasgow University's Cecilian Society (amateur music and drama group), I coached the Frank Loesser musical How to Succeed in Business without Really Trying. Scottish and English students in this production successfully portrayed an all-American cast.

My earlier work for the Cecilian Society includes Bugsy Malone, requiring Brooklyn and General American, and the Cole Porter musical Anything Goes, needing upper-crust English of the 1930s.
I also provided the accent coaching for Ben Elton's Popcorn, produced by the Ilkley Players in West Yorkshire. This required a small company (nine players in all), to speak with a variety of American accents - Californian, Mid-Western and New York.

For eight years now I've run a free accent and foreign pronunciation workshop as part of the Glasgow West End Festival. Recent workshops have included New York, Cantonese, Tyneside and Swahili.
I've also worked with West End Theatre (Glasgow) Ltd., the Scottish Community Drama Association in Aberdeen and Larbert, the Minerva Youth Theatre, and the Bearsden club Musical Branches.
