| I didn't want anyone to say, 'Hey, that Limey does a good accent.' I wanted them to believe I was American. - Damian Lewis, the English actor who played the lead in Spielberg's Band of Brothers. |
Your accent is like your clothes - it makes a statement about you, it positions you among your friends and colleagues. (Damian Lewis went in for some serious positioning!) You may be a businessman seeking to enhance your workplace credibility, or an actor wanting to give more convincing performances. Either way I can provide expert help, using my experience as a teacher and phonetician.
I can also help a theatre cast achieve convincing accents. Productions I've worked on include Anything Goes, Show Boat and Popcorn, and I've coached (among others) 1930's British English, Estuary English, Tyneside, Glasgow, Belfast, Southern United States and New York. If the accent your show needs is new to me, I'll use my expertise as a phonetician to research it.
"Your accent coaching was superb, and certainly helped to establish an authenticity in the production." - Walter Paul, Producer, Show Boat.
I charge 75 UK pounds for 5 half-hour slots (concessions for unwaged, students and non-profit theatre). You pay the full amount after the first half-hour, but if you don't like the first half-hour you can withdraw then and owe me nothing. Fees for whole-cast coaching, consultations and seminars are negotiable. And remember, you don't need to be in Glasgow - we can work by telephone.
