CUBA LIBRE! At the Palladium

Edinburgh Sunday 31st August What a great night.

By Rob Miller

Organised by Scottish Cuba Defence Campaign this cabaret evening attracted around 500 people to a salsa party to celebrate the achievements of the Cuban Revolution.

Against a backdrop of slides and films of Cuba and it's musical heroes salsa sensations 'Sonora La Calle' got everyone up and dancing. Fresh from a highly acclaimed sell out season at the Edinburgh Festival the band were on top form and gave the huge crowd a wonderful show.

They were supported by local group 'Salsa Celtica' who brought their own brand of Latin-Celtic fusion to the event.

There were also performances from the Amsterdam Academy of Tango and DJ Simon Hodge from Club Latino who kept the crowd dancing between sets.

Organiser Barbara Orton from SCDC said

"We were overjoyed with the event. It just shows what you can do when you have a good team and a strong commitment to making an event work. We are already thinking ahead to a similar event next year"
